Cellphone Subscriptions (a proxy for cellphone coverage in the country) are the highest in Seychelles, South Africa, Gabon, and Botswana. Eritrea is the lowest with just over 1 in 10 people with a cellphone subscription (10.21) in 2016. Similar to other indicators, though all countries have grown since 2000, disparity remains.

Overall, there is a modest positive correlation (coefficient of 0.37) between a country’s growth rate of Internet Access over the past five years and its GDP Growth. Similar to Internet, there is a slightly positive correlation (coefficient of 0.29) between the growth rate of Cellphone Subscriptions over the past five years and GDP Growth. The trend appears to be stronger among those countries designated as 'low income'.
